It’s no secret that the holidays can be a pretty hectic time. There always seems to be family coming in and out of town, different parties to attend, and of course, pretty rough (cold) weather in some areas.
However, if you happen to be looking for a house during this time, there may be some pretty great benefits that outweigh the headaches.
The first reason it may be a good idea to buy a home for the holidays is that you certainly won’t have much competition. It’s true that there may be fewer houses to choose from, but not as many people are willing to look for homes during such a chaotic time.

There are also a lot of motivated sellers during the holidays. Since it isn’t the most ideal time to pack up and move, this means that sellers are more likely to be motivated. The holidays are typically a time to relax. Dealing with the hassle of moving and relocating really isn’t something a lot of sellers want to go through. You can use their motivation to your advantage when putting in an offer.
Motivated Real Estate Agents & Lenders
Another thing that is beneficial to purchasing a home at the end of the year is a faster closing period. Not only do sellers and buyers alike want to get settled into their new homes for the holidays, but the lenders want to have everything on the books and recorded before the year is over. Your real estate agent and brokers will certainly want to collect their commission they earned from your purchase by year’s end.
By purchasing a house during the holidays, you are probably going to come into contact with some pretty motivated agents. Since there won’t be as many potential clients, your agent will be able to give you much more attention and will probably be a lot more motivated to get the sale completed.
One of the most dreaded parts about home buying is the thought of having to pack everything up and move it all to your new place. The good news is since a lot of people aren’t up for the potential stress of moving during the holidays, you’ll probably find some awesome deals on moving companies. You’ll also have an easier time getting access to inspectors and mortgage brokers.
So, while the holidays may not seem like the ideal time to purchase a house, it actually may be something you want to consider. These helpful tips might be your ticket to getting a pretty big gift this year!
